Nikon

The great Nikon Sales is on! My pick of the COOLPIX collection is certainly P60. The ISO aside, 5x optical zoom and image stabilization plus being AA-battery compatible is really ideal for me. And a price tag of S$399 seems very reasonable.

I am currently a satisfied Nikon camera owner. My old E5200 is still working in a good condition and takes quality images. Which is why I always say megapixels is not the world.

Promotion is from 29 May till 30 Jun in 2008. I think PC Show 2008 should  still see the similar pricing.

Fujifilm

More promotion from this year Great Singapore Sale. And this is a highly recommended Fujifilm's promotion campaign. This is because I have noticed that Fujifilm has built up a good range of cameras for the amateur market.

For the compact cameras, I think Finepix Z100fd is one of the hot favourites when it comes to selection of a unique colour. In fact during this period, it is going at S$369 instead of the usual S$599. For the record, Z100fd is released last year. Check out its review.

Fujifilm has also recognize the fact that digital SLR (Single-Lens Reflex) is leading the way in the future of cameras. Hence while DSLR is still too expensive and unfamiliar for some, Fujifilm has introduced its series of high specification digital cameras in which it called them the S Series (Professional Series). In my opinion, cameras in this S Series seem to possess great specifications and pretty low prices. As for their performances and image quality, I must say some of which are pretty good yet not the best in the market.

In a nutshell, I think Fujifilm's products are value for money unless you have too much to spend.

USB Cell
Today I am going to introduce yet another interesting USB accessory following my story on the USB cup warmer. Both USB warmer and this battery aren't new products. But again, they are not really well-known locally.

USB battery can actually be more useful in situations such as when your wireless mouse ran out of juice. It also come in many shape and sizes for various products.

I actually saw this product on magazine some time ago. But it is only last week that I saw it on sale at Sim Lim Square (Best Bargain). However, only the AA batteries are on sale there. The price tag is S$14.90 (Do not quote me this price and location is only for reference!).

MC2 Pte Ltd

Promotion from May 22 - June 28.  Interesting marketing campaign from this rather famous notebook retailer. Read the details of the promotion carefully.

Samsung has hit our local mobilephone selection hard with several interesting phones such as i450 and G800. And this U900 Soul is outstanding in its unique way as well.

Samsung Soul
  • 5 megapixels with auto focus, image stabiliser, face detection
  • 3.5G
  • 2.2" TFT Display, 16 million colours
  • 105 x 49.5 x 12.9 mm, 112g
  • Bluetooth A2DP
  • Partial Touchpad Navigation
  • FM Radio
  • 128MB internal memory
  • MicroSD Slot
Samsung Soul
As usual, I would like to raise two key highlights of Samsung U900 Soul.

Firstly, as you would have notice, the touch pad navigation right in the middle of the phone. Apparently, you can adjust the sensitivity of the pad so you need not worry about non-responsive buttons. For me it looks great and is a refreshing idea but it does not improve navigation or efficiency on the whole. Hence, it is more like a gimmick than anything else. Take a look at how it will work. Samsung Soul
The next item on the list would be its 5 megapixels camera. While 5 megapixels would gradually be the standard in the market, U900 Soul is still one of the few in the local market at the moment. It has nearly what G800 has except for the optical zoom part. The sample photos of this latest release look impressive. But my stand is still the fact that if you really need great pictures you would need a proper camera.

In a nutshell, U900 Soul has the looks but lack really substance bearing in mind it is not a smartphone. And this is indeed reflected in the pricing with Singtel offering it at S$268 (2 year plan).

Apple iPhone

Well, as you might hear of it already Singtel has announced the arrival of the 3G iPhone. But it is really not as straightforward as it seems:

1. The original iPhone does not include 3G connection speed. Hence, 3G iPhone is a new product that is not in the market yet. It is said to be released in June 2008.

2. Both Apple and Singtel has not provided any date for the release of this much anticipated gadget.

3. Lastly, the sales model in Singapore. So Singtel made the announcement but what about Starhub and M1? Will they offer the iPhone as well? According to the article in TODAY, Telcommunication companies in Singapore are not allowed to use the SIM card lock method. Hence, either Singtel is the exclusive retailer, otherwise Starhub and M1 should be in the fray.

Dell has always been rated badly by most of my friend. Many critics said that the poor quality of the parts is to take the large share of blame. However, you would still see Dell everywhere on the street so they must be doing something right. The more recent model from Dell has to be Vostro 1310.

Dell Vostro

There is no point having a whole list of specification for this Business notebook as Dell's products are highly customizable which is I think one of its main selling points. And having seen it in the papers nearly everyday, I do have several pointers to discuss.

First of all, 13.1" display is the main reason to prompt me to write this post. In my opinion, 13.1" is probably the best size for a notebook. Well 14.1" notebooks are cool except that they often goes up to 2.5kg or more, which is really too heavy. For those without notebooks, believe me, 2.5kg is too heavy to be carried around the whole day. As for the 12.1" notebooks, they are portable no doubt but sometimes you might find the screen a tab too small for essays or internet (and programming according to my other editor of this blog). Of course, the zoom function is available but I can tell you it might be troublesome when time is at premium. Therefore, its nice to see Dell finally coming up with a 13.1" notebook.

The next thing to be concern with would be the design. For me, Vostro 1310 seems to be a clean, and non fussy notebook. Nothing outstanding and may be liken by a certain group of people who do not like colourful notebooks. The cover of this product is even glossy! Well that means it is a fingerprint magnet too. But at least its build does not possess the feel of cheap plastic.

Technically, I haven't hear complains of heat issues or poor battery life the two common complaints of notebooks. Overall, reviews for Vostro 1310 on the Internet are generally positive.

The cheapest Vostro with T7250 processor and Windows Vista Basic is probably the best price you can find for a T7000 series notebook at S$1,199. The other two versions of Vostro on the Dell website does not really appeal to me given the Windows Business or the Draft-N standard.

Nothing fantastic compared to the upcoming PC Show I would say. Really for those who are in a hurry.

There are actually two companies in Singapore that are Apple product resellers. They setup shops that only sells Apple and Apple related products. The first is Epicentre and now nϋbox has joined in the fun as well.

As the story goes, nϋbox has opened up a new branch at Tampines and they have two branches in all with the other one at Sim Lim Square. Check out the offers below, nothing fantastic but could still save you some cash.

Promotion only at the Tampines Branch and it begins tomorrow, ending on 11 May 2008.
